レッドウィング市での最初の５日間 The first ５ days in Red Wing.

It has been too long since I last updated the blog and so much has happened since then!  Apologies for the delay and please allow me briefly summarize all that has happened.

ご無沙汰です！このブログを更新したのはもうほとんど一週間前となってしいました！申し訳ありませんが、その５日間の間に伊方町中学海外派遣団の出来事をここに概要します。明日からまた毎日更新することにしますので、よろしくお願いします。

レッドウィング市地域空港に行って見学した伊方派遣生もいます。
There are some Ikata exchange students who went to the Municipal Airport.

レッドウィング市内じゃないですが、近くのクリスタル洞窟を見学しました。
It's not exactly within the Red Wing city limits but some kids went to explore Crystal Cave!

メモリアルパークからの見下ろしは素晴らしいです。
The view from Memorial Park is spectacular.

メモリアルパークから見たら、
ミネソタの地理が一目瞭然
The geography of Minnesota is apparent
when you look at it from Memorial Park.

パレードのとき、みんなで歩いて行きました。
We all walked together during the parade.

着物か甚平に着替えたレッドウィング市の派遣生と伊方町の派遣生
のみんなが揃えている記念写真。

夏奈は笑顔でパレードに来たレッドウィング市民に挨拶をしました。
With a smile, Kana greeted all the people of Red Wing who came out to the parade.

記念植樹は「フレンドシップ・グローブ」（友好の森）で行います。
夏奈さんと彩香さんは看板の前に写真を撮ってもらいました。
The ceremonial tree planting happens every year in Friendship Grove.
Kana and Ayaka got a picture in front of the sign.

写真の色はちょっと変わっていますが、伊方町中学派遣生、
レッドウィング学生、レッドウィングホストファミリーみんなが
揃っている記念写真です。（植えた木の前）
The color of the picture is a bit off but this is a picture of all the Ikata students,
Red Wing students, and Red Wing host families all together in front of the tree we planted.

記念植樹が終わり、歓迎会に入りました。
After the tree-planting finished up, the welcome party got under way.

レッドウィング学生はけっこう着物に気に入ったらしいです。
It seems like the Red Wing kids have really taken a liking to the kimonos!

ミシシピ川に沿って位置している
レッドウィング市には、穀物を輸送する
船が常に止まっています。
乗らせてくれました。
Barges carrying grain are almost always
docked in the city on the Mississippi, Red Wing.
They let us jump inside!

第１７回の伊方町中学海外派遣団の引率の先生。

ツインズプロ野球観戦に裕司を連れてくれたジョンソンファミリー、ありがとう！
Thank you to the Johnson family for taking Hirokazu to a Twins game!
いかがでしたか。How was it?

レッドウィングの「YMCA」というスポーツセンターで
バスケットボールをしたりして遊びました。
The kids had a good time playing around at the local YMCA.

バーンブラッフ丘でハイキングをしました。
They hiked Barn Bluff.
バーンブラッフはレッドウィングの象徴だという人が多いです。
なぜからというと、穀物を輸送している船の船長が
バーンブラッフを見かけたら、
「間もなく激しいくねりがある」とわかったから、
船長にとってはとても大事なものです。

レッドウィング市立高校の教室で

卓球を通じてホストブラザーズが交流しました。
Host brothers Foster and Hirokazu connected through a game a ping-pong.

白頭鷲のアメリカの鳥は
レッドウィング市内でよく見かけます。
You often find bald eagles within
the Red Wing city limits.

夏といえばやはりピクニックだというアメリカ人が多いです。
ジョンソンファミリーとストレッフファミリーはそういうアメリカ人です。
おいしそう！
There are many Americans who when they think of summer, think of picnics.
The Johnson and Streff family are such Americans.
It looks good!

レッドウィングのリバーシティー・デイズまつりの一つの楽しみは
ホットケーキの裏返しコンテストです。
確かに夏奈のホットケーキは飛んでいるところに撮った写真です。
One of the fun parts of Red Wing River City Days is the
Pancake Flipping Contest. Looks like Kana's pancake is in mid-flip!

地域のアーティストのドーン・ジロ・エリクソンに
伊方町中学派遣生はスタジオを見学させてもらいました。
Local artist Dawn Zero Erickson let the Ikata exchange students
get a tour of her studio.

The Ikata Friendship Delegation

The 9th Ikata Friendship Delegation arrived along with the students on Friday the 2nd of August in Minneapolis. Greeted by Mayor Bender of Red Wing, the Chair of the Sister Cities Commission Mrs. Hanson-Sullivan, as well as a couple of the host families and old friends (Chris!) it was a wonderful moment to re-connect with old friends. 

 Red Wing Sister Cities Commission Chair Shannon rented out the city van for the entire weekend and came all the way to the airport to pick us up. The entire weekend, no matter where we went, she took us to where we needed to be.

 The Ikata Friendship Delegation spent three nights and three days in Red Wing. During their time there,  we were shown around various local establishments. Though the details are omitted, the Ikata Friendship Delegation visited the following sights during their brief time in Red Wing:

1. Red Wing Chamber of Commerce
2. Red Wing Shoes Store
3. Treasure Island Resort and Casino (Buffet Dinner)
4. Red Wing Fire Department
5. Caribou Coffee (Re-uniting with previous Red Wing Sister Cities Commission chair Tom Brase.
6. Sheldon Theater (Tour by Sean Dowse)
7. Marie's Casual Dining & Lounge (Burger and waffle fries for lunch)
8. Red Wing Sportsmen's Club (Firing Range)
9. The Smokin' Oak (Dinner with Mayor Bender and his wife Dee)
10. The Subhouse (Lunch on Sunday)
11. Downtown Red Wing (shops on Crazy Days, Parade)
12. Colville Park (Tree Planting, Welcome Ceremony)

第９回以下多町友好親善団は伊方町中学海外派遣団と一緒に８月2日（金）にミネアポリス、そしてレッドウィング市に到着しました。出迎えに来て頂いたレッドウィングの方は大勢でしたが、その中、レッドウィン市のベンダー市長、レッドウィング市姉妹都市委員会シャノン会長、そして今までいろいろお世話になったクリスと前伊方町国際交流員のジェサミンが居ました。
　伊方町友好親善団が視察する場所へとの交通は全てシャノン会長がしてくれました。レッドウィング市の市バンを利用しました。
　伊方町友好親善団がレッドウィング市で過ごしたのは３泊3日でした。視察した場所・施設は下のとおりです。

1. レッドウィング商工会
2. レッドウィング・シューズ本店
3. 「トレジャー・アイランド」カジノ（バイキング夕食）
4. レッドウィング市の消防署
5. 「カリブー・コーヒー」というミネソタで始まったコーヒーショップ。（RW姉妹都市委員会前会長のトム・ブレイズさんに久しぶりに再会）
6. 100年以上の歴史あるシェルドン劇場（ダウス・シャーン（氏名）が案内してくれました。）
7. 「マリーズ」というレストラン（ハンバーガーとワッフル・フライポテト）
8. 「レッドウィング・スポーツマンズ・クラブ」射撃場
9. 「ザ・スモーキン・オーク」というレストラン（RW市長と夕食会）
10. 「ザ・サブハウス」昼食
11. レッドウィング市の町並み、お店
12. 「コルビル・パーク」（記念植樹と歓迎会）

Of particular interest or fascination to the friendship delegation:

1. The small number of workers in the Red Wing City Hall. (Roughly 30) Ikata has nearly 10 times that amount. 
2. The small amount of City Council Members (eight, including the mayor) and their pay. The Red Wing City Council is almost completely a volunteer position. 
3. The similarities between the Red Wing fire department and the Ikata fire department. 
4. Raw broccoli in salads.
5. The cool, dry weather.

ミネソタで始まったコーヒーショップでコーヒを飲みました。
We stopped for coffee at a local Minnesota establishment. 

シェルドン劇場を案内していただいたシャーンさんに、ありがとう！
Thank you very much Sean Dowse for showing us around the Sheldon Theater!                                                                                                                                                       

レッドウィングのフラワー・バスケット

町並みをみながらクレイジー・デイズとして知られているを楽しみました．
We had a good time looking at the downtown festival known as Crazy Days.

ここで昼食を食べました。
This is where we had lunch. 

ランチメニューは手作りハンバーガー、
オニオンリング、そして夏のときにしか売れてない
レモンネードの味がするピールです。

こういうふうにアメリカ人はレストランで食事を済ました後で
テーブルの上にチップを置きます。
This is how Americans leave tips on the tables
 after they finish a meal at a restaurant.

アメリカではコンビニはありません。
一番似ているとことはガソリンスタンド。
In the USA there is no such thing as a convenience store in the sense that
Japanese people know it to be.
The closest thing are the little shops attached to gas stations.

レッドウィングの消火栓はイエローで
規則として６５メートルに一個が必ず整えています。
The Red Wing fire hydrants are yellow and
as a rule are placed no more than about 65 meters apart. 

レッドウィングの「スポーツマンス・クラブ」という射撃場で
伊方町教育委員会会長は腕を見せ所でした。
At Red Wing's Sportsmans Club, the Ikata Board of Education Chair
really showed his stuff.

After trying a few shots and before heading home, the Ikata Friendship Delegation
snapped a photograph with the members and volunteers of the

パレードの時に派遣生たちに渡してもらったお土産と
歓迎会の時に渡したお土産です。

パレードの前に「ザ・サブハウス」というレストランで軽いサンドを

みんな美味しく食べてくれました。
Everyone liked their sub sandwiches!

消防車から観客の数がわかります。けっこう来ましたよ。
You can see all the people out to see the parade. It was quite a turnout.

伊方町福島議員さんと菊池議員さんは
オープンカーに乗らせてくれました。
Ikata town assembly members Mr. Fukushima and Mr. Kikuchi
on a convertible classic car. 

教育長さんと会長さんもクラシックオープンカーに
Ikata International Exchange Association Chair Mr. Hirose
and Ikata Board of Education Chair Mr. Kono on the back of
a classic convertible.

レピー・パークで屋台はたくさんありました。
この屋台が販売しているのは、ポテトフライと揚げチーズと
オニオンリングとホットドッグなどです。

Heading home, inside Minneapolis/St.Paul International Airport.

帰り便の機内食事です。ライス、チキン、サラダ、パン。
The meal on the way home, chicken and rice and a big salad.
Much nicer than on the way there.

Arriving safely back in Japan.

Domestic flights depart from a different airport than the international arrivals.
This is a ticket for the hour-long bus ride to the domestic airport, Haneda.

Heading to our hotel in Haneda airport.
Another long day of traveling at an end.
