Day 9: 姉妹都市凧まつり Sister City Kite Festival

Hello Again!

　既にアメリカでのホームステイの９日目となりました。今日は凧まつりの日です。レッドウィング姉妹都市委員会が主催する行事ですが、今年初めてです。成功を祈ります！まず、たくさんの市民が来て、派遣生の浴衣姿を見たり、交流を深めたりする事ができればいいなと思います。写真の下で画像についての説明が書いています。さらに、写真にクリックすると拡大する事もできます。

今日も晴れ、涼しい風が吹いています。
ミネソタ州の８月のお天気ってとても過ごしやすいですが、
凧祭りのために吹いてもらうかな。
Another beautiful day in Red Wing with great weather and a cool breeze.
August is Minnesota is sure is nice, but will the breeze continue to blow for the
Kite Festival this afternoon?

朝８時に伊方町中学海外派遣団の引率の先生は
レッドウィング姉妹都市委員会副会長とレッドウィング市長の奥さんと
一緒に５kmの短距離レースに参加しました。
先生は２００人以上の参加者の中一番遠くから来た参加者として認められました
This morning at 8 one of the chaperones headed down to Central Park to take
part in the annual Red Wing Ramble alongside Red Wing Sister Cities Commission
Vice Chairman Tao and the Dee Bender, wife to the mayor.
Mr. Adachi was recognized as being the participant to have traveled the
furthest to participate in the race.

引率の先生は派遣生の面倒をみる事はもちろん、いろいろな意味で
姉妹都市の友好関係を深めて、欠かせない存在です。
To me, the role of the chaperone is to, of course, look over the kids as they
make their way through their homestays, but also an invaluable
part of promoting the ties of friendship between our two cities.

レースの参加者の娘さんと息子さんが大勢で来ていて、お父さんとお母さんを
応援していました。レッドウィング市は
「健康な子供。健康な家族。健康なコミュニティ」という
イニシアチブを実施して、意識を高めています。
Many many sons and daughters of race participants had come out to
support their mothers and fathers.
The City of Red Wing is pushing to increase awareness of it
"Healthy Kids. Healthy Families. Healthy Communities" initiative.

参加者のためにバナナやドーナッツや水が
無料で用意していて、自由に取る事ができます。
Bananas, doughnuts, and water were available for
all the participants to take as they pleased.

３人とも無事に大きな笑顔でレースを終了しました。
All three of our racers finished with big smiles.

５kmのレースが終わった後、子供向けのFun Run（楽レース）が始まりました。
一番早い子供は１０分以内で終了しました。
After the 5k Rambler, the kid's Fun Run began.
The fastest children were able to finish in under 10 minutes.

午後からはKite Festivalでした。
場所はソリンブラッフ（ソリンの丘）の上のMemorial Parkでした。
The Kite Festival took place that afternoon.
It took place on top of the Sorin's Bluff in Memorial Park.

凧の上げ方を指導したのはMr.Kite(凧さん）という
とてもおしゃれな人でした。
A man by the name of Mr. Kite guided us in the proper ways
to fly a kite. "I'm looking forward to just having a good time today" he said.

風が弱くて凧が飛ぶかどうか心配でした。
We were worried about whether or not the wind would be enough to fly a kite.

レッドウィング市の公園について
詳しく説明する看板がMemorial公園にありました。
殆どの公園は市民の寄付やボランティア時間に
作られたとわかりました。
There were several signs in Memorial Park that
went into detail about other public parks in Red Wing.
Reading, I learned that many of the parks in
Red Wing were built using mainly donated money and time.

伊方派遣生は浴衣を着て参加しました。
凧を組み立ている様子です。
The Exchange Students from Ikata participated in
their Yukata. This is them putting together a kite.

そして野原へ向かい得ました。
とても素敵な浴衣で他の参加者に「Nice dress」と何度も言われました。
Then they headed out to the field.
Their yukatas were so beautiful, it's no wonder so many people stopped them to say "Nice dress!"

タクミさんは頑張って凧をあげようとしましたが、風がまだ弱くて
なかなか飛びませんでした。
Takumi tried his hardest to get his kite in the air but the wind was just so weak
there wasn't much hope.

スズカさんも走って凧を一生懸命あげてみました。
風さん、協力してくれるのかな。
Suzuka ran her hardest trying to get the kite up in the air.
Mr. Wind, won't you cooperate a bit more?

伊方町国際交流協会は今年初めてレッドウィング市との
ペンパル事業を開始しました。レッドウィング側のペンパル担当は
凧祭りに来て直接引率の先生に挨拶をしました。
The Ikata International Exchange Association began a penal program
this year with students of Red Wing's Twin Bluff Middle School.
The teacher in charge of the program on the Red Wing side came to
the Kite festival to meet us and introduce herself to Mr. Adachi. 

これからの手紙交換をよろしくお願いします。
Looking forward to many more letters to come.

ひとつ目の凧はなかなか飛べないので、
二つ目の凧を作り始めたタクミさん。
Because the first kite was a bit difficult to get up into the air,
Takumi started working on a second one.

写真をたくさん撮られました。
Many many pictures were taken.

2014年伊方町中学海外派遣生がラウタクスさんとジョンソンさん（ホストファミリー）、
とMr. Kiteと一緒に撮れた写真です。
ちなみに、きなはいや伊方まつりのうちわを祭りに来た人に配って大好評でした。

Not to mention, the kids all were sure to hand out Japanese fans from the
annual Ikata Kinahaiya Festival to everyone who came to the Kite Festival.

タクミさんの二つ目の凧がとてもよく飛びましたので、
他の派遣生作りたいと言って、作り始めました。
Because Takumi's second kite flew so well, everyone else wanted to make one.

市長も姉妹都市委員会副会長もいて、
一緒に凧作りをしました。
Even the Mayor and Red Wing Sister Cities Commission
Vice Chairman were there and pitched in helping to make kites.

地元の子供達が手伝って、楽しく凧を作りました。
We had a great time making kites with some of the local kids.

そして凧に絵を書いて完成です！
They finished up the kites by drawing pictures on them.

みんなそれぞれ自分の凧にいろいろな絵を書き
楽しく交流をしました。
They had a great time making and designing their kites with other kids. 

晴れていましたが、風がまだ弱いので
走らないと凧が上がりません。
負けず、先生を含めてみんな一生懸命に頑張りました。
It was a beautiful day, but with no wind to help there was nothing
left to do but to run to get the kites in the air.
Not to be beaten, everyone (even the chaperones) gave it their best shot.

レッドウィング市民も「風足りないな」と言っていました。
Even the Red Wing folks could be heard saying "tough without a breeze".

ナオユキさんより頑張って走った人はいませんでした。
その結果はご覧の通り、高く飛んでいるナオユキさんの凧です。
No one tried harder than Naoyuki, though, and --as you can see--
his result speaks for itself.

しばらくすると風が強まり、モモカさんも凧を見事に
あげることができました。
But soon the wind had picked up and Momoka was able to get her kite
way up in the air. Can you see it?

派遣生は無事にそれぞれのホストファミリーの家に帰った後、
引率者は凧まつりを計画した人とレッドウィング警察署長とレッドウィング市の議員さんと
美味しい郷土料理（川魚）を食べながら派遣事業について話しました。
After all the Ikata students had made it back safely to their host family's homes,
the chaperones headed out with the woman who planned the Kite Festival, the Chief of Police of Red Wing,
and a Councilwoman of the Red Wing City Council for a lovely dinner with local specialties.
We passed the time enjoying the local cuisine and talking about the exchange program.

今日も最後まで読んでくれてありがとうございます。凧まつりに来たレッドウィング市民に尋ねたら、「It was so nice to see the kids in their kimonos」（着物を来ている子供達の姿を見れてよかった）と言っていました。もちろん、着物ではなく、夏用の浴衣でしたが、言いたい事がわかり、浴衣を来てよかったと思いました。また来年のkite festivalに参加ができたらいいですね。
　明日は日曜日で、待ちに待ったパレードの日です。そして夜は花火大会です。忙しくて楽しい一日になるでしょう。Until the next post, good night!
