Lake Pepin and a Toy Store

 Hello, from Minnesota!

Lake Pepin is technically just a widening of the Mississippi river, but
with a surface area of over 40 square miles, it's wide enough to completely forget
that it's a river at all.

The kids took better pictures than I did, but here
we spotted a bald eagle.

We moved about the lake in two vehicles and one of them was a convertible.
The weather was nice so it felt great but the wind was a bit too strong for the
kids in the back so we put the top back up halfway through the trip.

Lake Pepin is positively surrounded by beautiful
scenery and geography formed by glaciers many many years ago.

At a certain point we got out of the car and went to see Mary's childhood home
on the lake. When we did, we spotted a train.

She said this massive train was probably carrying oil from North Dakota.

The surrounded in a fresh green color, it was a  wonderful place where
one could really let go and relax.

After that, we headed over to a town called Stockholm where many Swedes moved to.
We were told that they moved here "because the weather and scenery was so much like Sweden"

Hydrangea flowers in town. The color is similar but the shape
is a bit different (a bit rounder) than hydrangeas in Japan.

Bogus Creek
We ate lunch at a shop called Bogus Creek.

A beautiful garden in a beautiful town.
An especially memorable meal made with very fresh and delicious ingredients.
"I was happy that the portion sizes were just right" said Naoyuki.

Stockholm holds an annual Art Fair. Locals say that it is very popular.
This year they celebrated their 41st festival.

A picture of all of us at the lunch table.
The restaurant is popular for many reasons, one being that you can order
breakfast foods like french toast or hash browns any time of the day.

You can find this flower in Japan too, can't you.

After that we headed further south to the
Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum.

A replica of an old American school.
We sat down in the dests and took a break.

And then we headed out to the little house in where
Laura Ingalls Wilder was born.

You can even go inside the log cabin.
The kids were very tired by that point so we decided to head to the neighboring
town of Nelson to get some ice cream.

They say the ice cream at Nelson Creamery is the best in the area,
not to mention the prices are dirt cheap. No wonder so many people come here to grab a scoop.

After ice cream, we finished up our tour around Lake Pepin by heading down to
Lark Toys. We all signed in when we got there.

And then we were sure to put a pin on the map showing where we are from.

It looks like we are the first group to Lark Toys from Shikoku this year!

There really were so many fun and interesting toys and souvenirs.

There was even a hand-made wooden carousel inside the shop.

Everybody had a good time riding it.

And then went back to shopping...

The penny machine where you put in a regular penny and it
squishes it into a commemorative penny was pretty well received.

Last, we all headed outside to play some mini golf.

Today Naoyuki was the winner.

Mini-golf may be made for kids, but it's fun for anybody
at any age.

Lake Pepin at around 7pm at the end of our long, fun day.
We took the Minnesota side on the way up, finishing up our full circle of the lake.

明日はKite Festival(凧まつり)です。
