Day 6: バファロー牧場、穀物エレベーター、ボーリング Buffalo Pastures, Grain Elevators, and Bowling

 今日も忙しい一日でした！メリさんとテリさんがみんなを連れてレッドウィング市内の場所をたくさん見学しました。途中から眠くなった子供がいましたが、ボーリング場に行ったら元気が戻り、楽しく一日を終えました。写真は５０枚以上アップして、詳しい内容はそのしたに書いてあります。たくさんのコメントを待っています。^^

朝9:30にバファロー牧場に向かって出発しました。
街を出たら広々としたトウモロコシ畑が迎えました。
At 9:30 in the morning we all took off and headed to the Buffalo Project
Once we left town, we were immediately greeted by rolling cornfields.

バファローについて説明し、牧場を案内してくれた人です。
This is the man who explained the buffalo and the pasture to us.

小型トラックに乗って牧場へ向かいました。
そして、突然にバファローが何頭も目の前に現れます。
We got on a small truck and headed out into the field.
And suddenly there was a whole herd of buffalo right before our eyes.

自分の手で触れるほど、トラックのすぐそばまで寄っていました。
They came close enough to the truck that we could almost touch them with our hands.

走っているバファローの姿ってすごかったです。
馬より早く走れると案内さんが言いました。
This is what the buffalo look like when they are running.
Our guide said that buffalo can run faster than horses.

バファローの数がまだ少ないので、だめな子孫が生まないために、
遺伝子を詳しく分析したうえ繁殖させてやると言っていました。
繁殖時期以外はメスとオスを別々に暮らさせます。
Because the number of buffalo are so low, they must breed them only
after they have thoroughly analyzed their DNA so as not to produce any
offspring with diseases.
Outside of breeding season males and females are kept separate.

このトラックに乗って牧場に入り込みました。
派遣生６人、引率者２人、ホストマザー２人、去年のRW派遣生２人
そして案内したジョンさんが全員余裕に入りました。
This is the truck that we rode out into the pastures.
Six students, two chaperones, two Red Wing exchange students from last year,
two host mothers, and our guide all fit comfortably.

お昼はマクドナルドで。みんな自分で注文して
自分でお金を払いました。
For lunch we headed to Mc. Donald's and once again everyone
ordered and paid all on their own.

店内食べました。食べて再び注文した子供もいました。
We ate inside. Some kids even went up to order more.

タクミさんはスパイシーハンバーガーにしました。
Takumi had the spicy burgers and said they were good.

昼食を食べた後、ミシシピ川沿いの穀物エレベーターという
所に行きました。
After lunch we headed to he grain elevators along the Mississippi River.

昔、レッドウィング市の穀物生産量は世界一でしたようです。
In the past, Red Wing used to be the largest producer of grain in the world.

レッドウィング市内の農家が収穫した穀物をこの場所に運んだら、
重さを計って、その穀物のその日のお値段で買ってもらうことができます。
The Red Wing farmers would bring their grain to this place,
have their grain weighed and analyzed, and then paid based on the price the grain
was selling at that day as determined by the Chicago Trade offices.

見学ツアーの途中で案内した２人の作業員と一緒に写真を撮りました。
去年の派遣生のマリッサさんのお父さんもいて、作業員でした。
We nabbed a picture with everyone including one of the operations managers (our tour guide)
The other plant manager giving us the tour was a parent of one of the Red Wing
 exchange students to Ikata last year, Marissa.

穀物を保管庫から船へ運ばせる機械はこれです。
This is the machine that is used to transport the grain from the
storage facilities to the ships.

ツアーが終わったらキャンディをいっぱい取らせてくれました。
お礼を言って帰りました。
穀物エレベーターの事務所の中です。
Once the tour ended they let us take as much candy as we wanted.
We said thank you and were on our way.
This is inside the administrative offices of the grain elevators.

もちろん、帰る前にミシシピ川の前で案内してくれた２人の作業員と一緒に
写真を撮る事を忘れませんでした。
写真の右側にベルトコンベアが見えます。
Of course, we were sure not to forget to take a picture of everyone standing in
in front of the Mississippi with our guides.
You can see the conveyor belt mechanism on the right-side of the picture. 

その後、ボーリング場へ行きました。
After that, we went bowling.

毎週水曜日、１ゲーム１００円
靴のレンタル１００円
ホットドッグかハンバーガー１００円
という激安いボーリングイベントがあります。
Every Wednesday they have an extremely cheap deal for bowling
where you get one game for $1, shoe rental for $1,
and a hotdog or hamburgerfor $1.

ここもみんな自分で靴を借りて、料金を自分で払いました。
Here too the students all paid and asked for rental shoes all on their own.

そしてゲームが始まりました。
And the games began!

最初にストライクしたのはたくみでした。
２番目はスズカさんでした。
The first person to get a strike was Takumi. The second person
was Suzuka.

アメリカのワッフルフライが美味しかったですって。
American waffle fries are good, they said.

２０１３年のRW派遣生３人も来て一緒に遊んでくれました。
Three Red Wing exchange students from 2013 came out to have a good time
with us.

ラルフさん（ホストファザー）も楽しんだと思います。
I think Ralph (one of the students' host fathers) also had a great time.

ブラックライト（蛍光ランプ）の光で白い色のものが自然と光りました。
Anything white instantly lit up in the light of the backlights.

フォスターさんは１５歳ですが、仮免許はもう取っているので、
車をとって、迎えに来てくれましたが、
もちろん、ホストマザーのテリさんは家まで連れて運転しました。
Foster is only 15 but because he already has his drivers permit he picked us up in
the parking lot...but of course, their host mother Teri drove them home.

 最後まで読んでくれてありがとうございます。行事いっぱいで帰ったら子供達みんなぐっすりと寝たでしょう。明日はアメリカ最大ショッピングモールを訪ね、買い物をします。遊園地がモールの中にはありますので、伊方派遣生は乗り物に乗る事もとても楽しみにしているようです。それでは、Good night!
