Day 4: Sightseeing in Hiroshima and arrival in Ikata 広島の観光、そして伊方町に到着

火曜日はまた新幹線に乗って、広島に到着しました。時間は少なかったですが、有名な観光スポットを見ました。これは原爆ドームです。 On Tuesday the group took a shinkansen once more and arrived at Hiroshima. Although there was not a lot of time we were able to see some of the city's most famous spots. Pictured here is the Atomic Bomb Dome.

Day 3: Sightseeing in Kyoto

今日は京都の観光です。東京から新幹線を乗って11時頃到着しました。現代的な東京に比べて京都は新しい経験です。Today the group did sightseeing in Kyoto. We took a shinkansen from Tokyo and arrived at about 11AM. Compared to the very modern Tokyo, Kyoto was a new type of experience.

今夜は京都駅の近くの旅館に泊まります。皆は伝統的な文化に没頭して、日本についてたくさん学びました。明日は広島を観光して、フェリーに乗って、ようやく愛媛県に到着します。 Tonight the group will stay at a traditional Japanese style hotel, known as a ryokan. It marks the end of a day filled with immersion in traditional Japanese culture. Tomorrow we will do sightseeing in Hiroshima before finally taking a ferry to Ehime.

Day 2: Sightseeing in Tokyo 東京の観光

Today the group went sightseeing in Tokyo. We started at Ueno by walking around and shopping. 今日は東京の観光をしました。最初に上野に行って、散歩して、買い物をしました。

Everybody woke up early, was still struggling with jet lag and had some trouble with the Japanese summer. But though there were some challenges, the students had an eventful and fulfilling day in Tokyo. Tomorrow we leave Tokyo and head towards Kyoto.

朝は早くて、時差ボケはまだ治らなくて、夏の暑さは厳しくて、今日は色々な難しいことがありました。それなのに皆は頑張って、充実な日を過ごしました。明日は東京から出て京都へ向かいます。

Day 1: Arrival in Japan 日本への到着

The Red Wing delegation has safely arrived in Japan and reached their hotel in Tokyo. Everyone is tired from the long journey but is looking forward to sightseeing tomorrow. レッドウィング派遣団が日本に到着して無事に東京のホテルに着きました。長い日でしたので皆は疲れているけど、明日の観光を楽しみにしています。

Day 12 & 13: プロ野球観戦とお別れ Twins Game and Saying Goodbye

Hello!  

　今日は伊方中学海外派遣団の最後のアメリカでの一日でした。午前中は荷造りのため何も予定が入れてなかったですが、午後からはレッドウィング市から１時間半ぐらい離れているミネアポリスという大都会でプロ野球の試合を観戦しました。派遣生は荷物をとても上手に造って、しかも重量がアンダーでしたので、時間通りに出発する事ができましたが、車の渋滞でぎりぎりと試合開始時刻に間に合いました。

　とても楽しい試合でしたが、応援していたツインズの勝ちだったかどうかは今日の記事を最後まで読まないとだめです。^^ たくさんのコメントを待っています。

今日はプロ野球を観戦する日ですが、帰りは遅いですので、
家を出るまで荷造りをしないといけませんでした。
体重計を使って重量オーバーになってないように、
派遣生は見事に造りました。
Today was the day of the pro baseball game but because we wouldn't
be getting back until late, we made sure that we had our bags packed
before leaving the house. The kids packed their bags perfectly,
even using a bathroom scale to make sure the bags were not overweight.

スーツケースの準備も、野球観戦の準備もでき、
余裕の時間がありましたので、ゲームを遊びました。
With suitcases and preparations for the baseball game all taken care of,
the kids spent a little free time playing around.

ヘレンさんもマリサさんも一緒に試合をみます。
伊方派遣生の荷物をみている２人も伊方に行きたいのかな。
Helen and Marissa will also watch the game with us.
It looks like they are checking out the Ikata kids' suitcases,
I wonder if they want to go to Ikata too.

晴れで、27度、湿気のないというとても過ごしやすく、
野球観戦にちょうどいいお天気です。
Clear, 80 degrees, and not humid at all.
The perfect weather for watching a baseball game.

Day 11: 警察署とポットラック(夕食会） Police Station and Potluck Dinner

Hello!

　今日も伊方中学海外派遣団はレッドウィング市でとても充実とした時間を過ごす事ができました。レッドウィング市役所を訪問し、レッドウィング警察署を見学した後、伊方派遣生は夕方のポットラック・ディナーの為に日本の食べ物を頑張って作っておきました。調理が思ったより時間がかかったという事で、８時前ぐらいジョンソンさんの家で集合して、パーティーがはじまりましたが、とても美味しくて量が多かったのでパーティーが遅く始まった事をすぐ忘れ、楽しく過ごせる事がでしました。
 The Ikata students spent another wonderful day in Red Wing today. After visiting Red Wing City Hall and the Red Wing Police Department, they headed off to make some Japanese food for the potluck dinner tonight. Things didn't end up getting started until about 8pm that night because cooking took a bit longer than usual but there was so much food and it was so good that soon we all forgot about the late start and started having a blast.

with Ikata is on display in the Sister Cities Room.

姉妹都市展示室の真ん中に展示しています。
The Japanese folding screen that was gifted to the City of Red Wing
from the Town of Ikata by the members of last year's Ikata
Friendship Delegation was also on display.

レッドウィング市長のベンダーさんは笑顔で市役所を案内しました。
Red Wing Mayor Bender showed us around City Hall with a smile.

Day 10: 一生記憶に残る日 The Unforgettable Day

　今日は非常に忙しくて楽しい一日でした。パレードや花火大会、派遣生にとっては一生忘れられない大切な想いでいっぱい作れたと思います。お世話になったたくさんの方々に本当に感謝していて、お礼を申し上げます。それでは、写真を下の通り投稿しています。そどうぞゆっくり見て、Enjoyをしてください。たくさんのコメントを待っています！
　Today really turned out to be a very busy but extremely fun day! From the parade to the fireworks show, there's no doubt in my mind that today will be a day that the Ikata exchange students will remember for the rest of their lives. To everyone in Red Wing that made today possible, a big thank you. We are so grateful for all you have done and continue to do to make this experience so wonderful. The pictures along with some brief explanations are posted below. Looking forward to your comments!

年次パンケーキブレックファーストがレッドウィング飛行場で開催されるので、
午前中、タクミさんとナオユキさんは引率の先生と一緒にレッドウィング空港で
過ごしました。
The annual pancake breakfast takes place at the Red Wing Airport so
Takumi and Naoyuki and our chaperone Mr. Adachi all headed down there in the morning.

朝食を食べた後、パンケーキひっくり返しコンテスト
に参加して、男たちの腕のみどころ！
After breakfast the boys showed their pancake-flipping skills.

ナオユキさんはさすがに一位をとって、パンケーキミックスを貰いました。
Sure enough, Naoyuki took first place and nabbed the coveted Sturdiwheat pancake mix. 

パンケーキが美味しくて、パンケーキひっくり返しコンテストが楽しいから
人気が集まっていますが、会場は飛行場だから本当のパイロットに会う事もできます。
でも、一人のパイロットに「乗ってみない？」と聞かれるなんては完全に予想外でした。
嘘だろうと思いましたが、パイロットは本気でみんな小さな飛行機に乗って早速出発！
It's a popular event because the pancakes are delicious and the pancake flipping contest
is a lot of fun, but because it takes place at an airport you also get to meet real pilots.
Still, nothing prepared the boys for the what came next:
"Wanna go for a ride?" the pilot asked the boys.
No way, they thought, but one thing led to the next and soon they were taking off!

突然、「運転してみては？」とパイロットさんは聞きました。
ナオユキさんは「まさか飛行機を運転するとは思わなかったです」と言いました。
小型飛行機だからパイロットの動きに敏感にすぐ反応します。
少しだけハンドルを右に曲げても、飛行機はすぐに右に曲がりました。
「しぬかと思いました」とタクミさんは半分冗談で笑って言いました。
Suddenly the pilot turned to Naoyuki and asked "Wanna take the controls?"
"I never imagined that I would ever get to fly a plane!" said Naoyuki as he gripped the handle.
It was a small plane so even the slightest touch of the controls and the plane responded instantly.
A slight turn to the right and instantly the plane would bank to the right.
"I thought I was going to die" said Takumi, jokingly.
