Day 12 & 13: プロ野球観戦とお別れ Twins Game and Saying Goodbye

Hello!  

　今日は伊方中学海外派遣団の最後のアメリカでの一日でした。午前中は荷造りのため何も予定が入れてなかったですが、午後からはレッドウィング市から１時間半ぐらい離れているミネアポリスという大都会でプロ野球の試合を観戦しました。派遣生は荷物をとても上手に造って、しかも重量がアンダーでしたので、時間通りに出発する事ができましたが、車の渋滞でぎりぎりと試合開始時刻に間に合いました。

　とても楽しい試合でしたが、応援していたツインズの勝ちだったかどうかは今日の記事を最後まで読まないとだめです。^^ たくさんのコメントを待っています。

今日はプロ野球を観戦する日ですが、帰りは遅いですので、
家を出るまで荷造りをしないといけませんでした。
体重計を使って重量オーバーになってないように、
派遣生は見事に造りました。
Today was the day of the pro baseball game but because we wouldn't
be getting back until late, we made sure that we had our bags packed
before leaving the house. The kids packed their bags perfectly,
even using a bathroom scale to make sure the bags were not overweight.

スーツケースの準備も、野球観戦の準備もでき、
余裕の時間がありましたので、ゲームを遊びました。
With suitcases and preparations for the baseball game all taken care of,
the kids spent a little free time playing around.

ヘレンさんもマリサさんも一緒に試合をみます。
伊方派遣生の荷物をみている２人も伊方に行きたいのかな。
Helen and Marissa will also watch the game with us.
It looks like they are checking out the Ikata kids' suitcases,
I wonder if they want to go to Ikata too.

晴れで、27度、湿気のないというとても過ごしやすく、
野球観戦にちょうどいいお天気です。
Clear, 80 degrees, and not humid at all.
The perfect weather for watching a baseball game.

Day 11: 警察署とポットラック(夕食会） Police Station and Potluck Dinner

Hello!

　今日も伊方中学海外派遣団はレッドウィング市でとても充実とした時間を過ごす事ができました。レッドウィング市役所を訪問し、レッドウィング警察署を見学した後、伊方派遣生は夕方のポットラック・ディナーの為に日本の食べ物を頑張って作っておきました。調理が思ったより時間がかかったという事で、８時前ぐらいジョンソンさんの家で集合して、パーティーがはじまりましたが、とても美味しくて量が多かったのでパーティーが遅く始まった事をすぐ忘れ、楽しく過ごせる事がでしました。
 The Ikata students spent another wonderful day in Red Wing today. After visiting Red Wing City Hall and the Red Wing Police Department, they headed off to make some Japanese food for the potluck dinner tonight. Things didn't end up getting started until about 8pm that night because cooking took a bit longer than usual but there was so much food and it was so good that soon we all forgot about the late start and started having a blast.

Before visiting the Police Department,
we headed over to the Red Wing City Hall

姉妹都市展示室で展示しているこのペンで姉妹都市提携書が
サインされました。
The pen that was used to sign the Sister Cities Agreement document
with Ikata is on display in the Sister Cities Room.

この絵もレッドウィング市役所の姉妹都市展示室で展示しています。
This painting was also on display in the Sister Cities Display Room in
the Red Wing City Hall (Kamegaike Pond)

羽子板も太鼓も姉妹都市展示室で展示しています。
Japanese Hagoita (paddle boards) and Taiko (drums)
were also available on display.

２０１３年の伊方町友好親善団がレッドウィング市にプレゼントした屏風も
姉妹都市展示室の真ん中に展示しています。
The Japanese folding screen that was gifted to the City of Red Wing
from the Town of Ikata by the members of last year's Ikata
Friendship Delegation was also on display.

レッドウィング市長のベンダーさんは笑顔で市役所を案内しました。
Red Wing Mayor Bender showed us around City Hall with a smile.

Day 10: 一生記憶に残る日 The Unforgettable Day

　今日は非常に忙しくて楽しい一日でした。パレードや花火大会、派遣生にとっては一生忘れられない大切な想いでいっぱい作れたと思います。お世話になったたくさんの方々に本当に感謝していて、お礼を申し上げます。それでは、写真を下の通り投稿しています。そどうぞゆっくり見て、Enjoyをしてください。たくさんのコメントを待っています！
　Today really turned out to be a very busy but extremely fun day! From the parade to the fireworks show, there's no doubt in my mind that today will be a day that the Ikata exchange students will remember for the rest of their lives. To everyone in Red Wing that made today possible, a big thank you. We are so grateful for all you have done and continue to do to make this experience so wonderful. The pictures along with some brief explanations are posted below. Looking forward to your comments!

年次パンケーキブレックファーストがレッドウィング飛行場で開催されるので、
午前中、タクミさんとナオユキさんは引率の先生と一緒にレッドウィング空港で
過ごしました。
The annual pancake breakfast takes place at the Red Wing Airport so
Takumi and Naoyuki and our chaperone Mr. Adachi all headed down there in the morning.

朝食を食べた後、パンケーキひっくり返しコンテスト
に参加して、男たちの腕のみどころ！
After breakfast the boys showed their pancake-flipping skills.

ナオユキさんはさすがに一位をとって、パンケーキミックスを貰いました。
Sure enough, Naoyuki took first place and nabbed the coveted Sturdiwheat pancake mix. 

パンケーキが美味しくて、パンケーキひっくり返しコンテストが楽しいから
人気が集まっていますが、会場は飛行場だから本当のパイロットに会う事もできます。
でも、一人のパイロットに「乗ってみない？」と聞かれるなんては完全に予想外でした。
嘘だろうと思いましたが、パイロットは本気でみんな小さな飛行機に乗って早速出発！
It's a popular event because the pancakes are delicious and the pancake flipping contest
is a lot of fun, but because it takes place at an airport you also get to meet real pilots.
Still, nothing prepared the boys for the what came next:
"Wanna go for a ride?" the pilot asked the boys.
No way, they thought, but one thing led to the next and soon they were taking off!

突然、「運転してみては？」とパイロットさんは聞きました。
ナオユキさんは「まさか飛行機を運転するとは思わなかったです」と言いました。
小型飛行機だからパイロットの動きに敏感にすぐ反応します。
少しだけハンドルを右に曲げても、飛行機はすぐに右に曲がりました。
「しぬかと思いました」とタクミさんは半分冗談で笑って言いました。
Suddenly the pilot turned to Naoyuki and asked "Wanna take the controls?"
"I never imagined that I would ever get to fly a plane!" said Naoyuki as he gripped the handle.
It was a small plane so even the slightest touch of the controls and the plane responded instantly.
A slight turn to the right and instantly the plane would bank to the right.
"I thought I was going to die" said Takumi, jokingly.

Day 9: 姉妹都市凧まつり Sister City Kite Festival

Hello Again!

　既にアメリカでのホームステイの９日目となりました。今日は凧まつりの日です。レッドウィング姉妹都市委員会が主催する行事ですが、今年初めてです。成功を祈ります！まず、たくさんの市民が来て、派遣生の浴衣姿を見たり、交流を深めたりする事ができればいいなと思います。写真の下で画像についての説明が書いています。さらに、写真にクリックすると拡大する事もできます。

今日も晴れ、涼しい風が吹いています。
ミネソタ州の８月のお天気ってとても過ごしやすいですが、
凧祭りのために吹いてもらうかな。
Another beautiful day in Red Wing with great weather and a cool breeze.
August is Minnesota is sure is nice, but will the breeze continue to blow for the
Kite Festival this afternoon?

朝８時に伊方町中学海外派遣団の引率の先生は
レッドウィング姉妹都市委員会副会長とレッドウィング市長の奥さんと
一緒に５kmの短距離レースに参加しました。
先生は２００人以上の参加者の中一番遠くから来た参加者として認められました
This morning at 8 one of the chaperones headed down to Central Park to take
part in the annual Red Wing Ramble alongside Red Wing Sister Cities Commission
Vice Chairman Tao and the Dee Bender, wife to the mayor.
Mr. Adachi was recognized as being the participant to have traveled the
furthest to participate in the race.

引率の先生は派遣生の面倒をみる事はもちろん、いろいろな意味で
姉妹都市の友好関係を深めて、欠かせない存在です。
To me, the role of the chaperone is to, of course, look over the kids as they
make their way through their homestays, but also an invaluable
part of promoting the ties of friendship between our two cities.

レースの参加者の娘さんと息子さんが大勢で来ていて、お父さんとお母さんを
応援していました。レッドウィング市は
「健康な子供。健康な家族。健康なコミュニティ」という
イニシアチブを実施して、意識を高めています。
Many many sons and daughters of race participants had come out to
support their mothers and fathers.
The City of Red Wing is pushing to increase awareness of it
"Healthy Kids. Healthy Families. Healthy Communities" initiative.

Day 8: ペピン湖やおもちゃ屋 Lake Pepin and a Toy Store

　Hello, from Minnesota! ミネソタよりハロー！今日のお天気も晴れ、涼しい夏の日でした。相変わらず忙しくて、楽しい一日を過ごしましたが、ふたつのグループに分かれて行動しました。派遣生２人はミネソタ州都でたくさん見学している間、残りの派遣生４人はペピン湖を一周回って、見学しました。なお、私はペピン湖団と同行しましたので、そのグループの写真しかありませんが、後ほど州都に行った団体から写真をもらってアップします。
　写真と詳しい情報は下の通りです。ぜひ見てください。たくさんのコメントを待っています。

ペピン湖はまさにミシシピ川がただ広がるところだといっても
間違いないですが、面積は118km²で川だと全然わからない広さです。
今日はこの湖を一周回ってたくさんのところを見学しました。
Lake Pepin is technically just a widening of the Mississippi river, but
with a surface area of over 40 square miles, it's wide enough to completely forget
that it's a river at all.

私が撮った写真より派遣生の写真の方がわかりやすくてよく
見えますが、ハクトウワシを発見しました。
The kids took better pictures than I did, but here
we spotted a bald eagle.

２台で移動しました。１台はラウタクスさんのオープンカーでした。
天気がいいから気持ちよかったですが、後ろに座っている派遣生は
風が強いので、途中からやめて屋根をつけました。
We moved about the lake in two vehicles and one of them was a convertible.
The weather was nice so it felt great but the wind was a bit too strong for the
kids in the back so we put the top back up halfway through the trip.

ペピン湖は氷河につくられたおかげで、
とても奇麗な景色や地理に囲まれています。
Lake Pepin is positively surrounded by beautiful
scenery and geography formed by glaciers many many years ago.

途中から車をおりて、ラウタクスさんのお父さんの別荘を見に行きました。
すると、列車に目撃しました。
At a certain point we got out of the car and went to see Mary's childhood home
on the lake. When we did, we spotted a train.

Day 7: モールオブアメリカ The Mall of America

Hello! 今日はモールオブアメリカというアメリカ最大モール（店舗の数がアメリカ最多）で買い物をしたり、テーマパークで遊んだした日でした。伊方派遣生も引率者もホストファミリーも行って、楽しくて充実した一日になりました。今日の写真は下の通りです。ぜひ、見て、コメントや伊方派遣生への励ましの事をたくさん残してください。

まず、ホノカさんとスズカさんのホストファミリーの家に行きました。
最初に迎えに来てくれたのはジョンソンさんの犬でした。
First, we stopped by the home of Honoka and Suzuka's host family.
The first one to come greet us was the Johnson family dog.

ジョンソンファミリーの家です。
とても庭の広くて、大自然に囲まれている素敵な家です。
This is the Johnson family home.
It's a lovely home surrounded by nature and a beautiful wide lawn.

出発する前に犬にグッドバイを言いました。
We said goodbye to the dog before taking off.

モールオブアメリカへの道。
The road to the Mall of America.

モールオブアメリカに着いて最初に思った事は
とてつもないひろいです！
お揃いの伊方シャツを着てよかった！
The first thing we noticed when we arrived at the Mall of America
was how incredibly huge it was!
Good thing we all wore our blue Ikata t-shirts.

Day 6: バファロー牧場、穀物エレベーター、ボーリング Buffalo Pastures, Grain Elevators, and Bowling

 今日も忙しい一日でした！メリさんとテリさんがみんなを連れてレッドウィング市内の場所をたくさん見学しました。途中から眠くなった子供がいましたが、ボーリング場に行ったら元気が戻り、楽しく一日を終えました。写真は５０枚以上アップして、詳しい内容はそのしたに書いてあります。たくさんのコメントを待っています。^^

朝9:30にバファロー牧場に向かって出発しました。
街を出たら広々としたトウモロコシ畑が迎えました。
At 9:30 in the morning we all took off and headed to the Buffalo Project
Once we left town, we were immediately greeted by rolling cornfields.

バファローについて説明し、牧場を案内してくれた人です。
This is the man who explained the buffalo and the pasture to us.

小型トラックに乗って牧場へ向かいました。
そして、突然にバファローが何頭も目の前に現れます。
We got on a small truck and headed out into the field.
And suddenly there was a whole herd of buffalo right before our eyes.
